Finally, there is welcome news for all the farmers located in the Oswego County. This county has been declared as a disaster area by the federal government.

This declaration has made Oswego County eligible for receiving financial assistance through Farm Service Agency (FSA) disaster emergency loan assistance program. All the family farmers of this county who have suffered property and agricultural crop damage due to excessive snow can apply for financial aid through this program.

However, all the victims who have suffered losses must report the complete details of the damage at their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office. Eligibility for the loan would be determined based on certain criteria which include the details of the loss and agricultural crop insurance details. It is very important to provide documentary evidence supporting the physical loss while applying for the loan. Under this program, farmers can avail a loan amount equal to 100 percent of the actual physical or production damage caused, or an amount required to suffice the operational costs needed to continue the business or an amount which is equal to $500,000, whichever is lower.

Under the emergency loan program of Farm Service Agency, farmers can avail loans only when they are unable to get credit from any other source such as private commercial lending agencies. In order to be eligible under this program, the applicant must be a U.S citizen or a permanent resident of the country. He must have a satisfactory credit report. These loans are provided to farmers at an affordable interest rate of 3.75 percent.
