Matt Morris first season with San Francisco Giants was a great disappointment when he was injured. Morris just entered Spring Training and things are just not going right for him. He recently made his debut in Spring Training and nearly every pitch he threw was wrong, right from his windup to its final destination. This resulted in the Milwaukee Brewers hitting Morris for seven runs in 1 2-3 innings.
This was quite a shock for Morris specially because he is a veteran pitcher who has been planning a major comeback this season. Morris said that he did not expect the Brewers to give him such a drubbing. He further added that he went into the game expecting to make some pitches and get results. Unfortunately he did not do either.
Morris spring stats in the beginning of the season were even worse than all his performances from last season put together. Last season Morris had a broken rib and it was only diagnosed late in the year. He had an ERA of 4.98 and coupled with bad run support from the team, Morris had his first losing record last year.
To add to his woes last season, his former team from St Louis won the World Series without him. Though Morris said that it did not disturb and he was happy for his friends. One wonders whether it is the truth since Morris spent 11 seasons with the Cardinals and helped them win 101 Major League games.
In the game against Milwaukee Brewers, Morris pitched to 14 batters but managed to retire just five, walked four and gave five hits besides throwing a wild pitch quite a bit. He his bad pitching on mechanics and said that his muscles were copying the bad form he had last season.
However, manager Bruce Bochy did not think Morris did that badly. He attributed the lost form to the flu that Morris recently had. Bochy felt that Morris had lost weight and that could have affected his pitching since he was still weak. Given a little time, Bochy expected him to improve.
